ইস্ট কলকাতা গার্লস’ কলেজের বাংলা বিভাগ কলেজের প্রতিষ্ঠার সময় থেকেই জেনারেল কোর্সের মাধ্যমে যাত্রা শুরু করে এবং ২০০১ সালে অনার্স কোর্সের অনুমোদন লাভ করে। যোগ্য ও নিষ্ঠাবান শিক্ষকদের সুচারু দিকনির্দেশনায় বিভাগটি শিক্ষা ক্ষেত্রে এক গৌরবময় ঐতিহ্য বজায় রেখে চলেছে।

ছাত্রছাত্রীদের মধ্যে বিশেষ গুণাবলি ও দক্ষতা গড়ে তুলতে নিয়মিতভাবে এক্সটেনশন লেকচারের আয়োজন করা হয়, যেখানে বিশিষ্ট অধ্যাপক ও শিক্ষাবিদরা পাঠ্যক্রম সংশ্লিষ্ট বিভিন্ন বিষয়ে তাদের মতামত ও জ্ঞান বিনিময় করেন। শ্রেণি পাঠের জন্য বিভাগে আইসিটি সুবিধাযুক্ত আধুনিক শ্রেণিকক্ষ ব্যবহৃত হয় এবং বিভাগটির নিজস্ব একটি সমৃদ্ধ গ্রন্থাগারও রয়েছে।

শ্রেণিকক্ষে পাঠদানের পাশাপাশি ছাত্রছাত্রীদের মানসিক ও নৈতিক বিকাশের ওপর বিশেষ গুরুত্ব দেওয়া হয়। তাদের নানা বিতর্ক, বক্তৃতা, চিত্রাঙ্কন, ওয়াল ম্যাগাজিন এবং পোস্টার তৈরি প্রভৃতি প্রতিযোগিতামূলক কর্মকাণ্ডে অংশগ্রহণের জন্য উৎসাহিত করা হয়।

এইসব কর্মকাণ্ডে অংশগ্রহণের মাধ্যমে তাদের আত্মবিশ্বাস বৃদ্ধি পায়, বক্তৃতা ও যোগাযোগ দক্ষতা উন্নত হয়। বর্তমান যুগের পরিবর্তনশীল চাহিদার সঙ্গে তাল মিলিয়ে ছাত্রছাত্রীদের বিভিন্ন ক্ষেত্রে কর্মসংস্থানের উপযোগী করে গড়ে তোলার প্রতিও বিশেষ যত্ন নেওয়া হয়।

Welcome to the Department of Bengali
The Department of Bengali, East Calcutta Girls' College started its journey from the inception of the College with the General Course and received affiliation for Honours in 2001. The department has been maintaining a strong legacy of academic excellence under the able guidance of its competent and dedicated teachers.

In order to imbibe special qualities and skills in the students, regular extension lectures are conducted wherein eminent professors and academicians exchange their thoughts on different topics related to the curriculum. The department uses ICT-enabled classrooms for teaching and is equipped with its own resourceful library.

In addition to classroom teaching, special emphasis is given to the holistic mental and moral development of the students. They are encouraged to participate in various debates, elocutions, painting, wall magazine, and poster-making activities in intra- and inter-college competitions.

These activities boost overall confidence, enhance public speaking, and improve communicative abilities. Keeping pace with the changing scenario of today’s world, students are also guided to become employable in various fields once they graduate from the College.
