The Department of Bengali of East Calcutta Girls’ College started its journey from the date of inception of the College with General Course and received affiliation for Honours in the year 2001. The department has been maintaining a strong legacy of academic excellence under the able guidance of its competent and dedicated teachers. In order to imbibe special qualities and skills to the students, regular extension lectures are conducted wherein eminent professors and academicians exchange their thoughts on different topics with the students related to their curriculum. Classes are also held on ICT enabled classroom with state of art facilities. The department is equipped with a resourceful Library of its own.
In addition to the classroom teaching within the four walls special emphasis is given on holistic mental-moral development of the students. They are encouraged to participate in various debates, elocutions, painting, wall magazine & poster making in various Intra-Inter College Competitions which boost the overall confidence and soft skill, enhance their public speaking, communicative ability. Keeping in pace with the changing scenario of today’s world, students are also guided in such a way so that they can also be employed in different fields once they pass out of the College.
Future Plans:

Hosting International / National level seminars wherein eminent speakers from Universities of International repute will participate. The different papers so presented in this seminar will be published in a book form which will also promote the interest of research work among the students.

To conduct workshops on Theatre/Recitation to enhance the soft skills of students.

To arrange a ‘Students’ Fest’, a purely students' enterprise, where our students may organise an Inter College creative writings, extempore,student seminar etc.

Community Outreach Programme(Whole Person Education) where our students will be made aware about their social responsibilities.
