The Department of Education of East Calcutta Girls’ College was established in 1991. The Honours course was introduced in 2003, and the Postgraduate course started in 2016. The department follows the West Bengal State University curriculum for both UG and PG levels. The Department is offering two certificate courses in collaboration with reputed institutes in Kolkata.

The Department offers both Undergraduate (UG) and Postgraduate (PG) programs with a strong commitment to academic excellence, innovation, and holistic student development. The Department has experienced faculty members, modern learning facilities, and an enriching academic environment; the department strives to prepare students for successful careers and higher studies. Through various academic activities e.g., international conference, workshop, student seminars, extension lectures delivered by distinguished faculty members of various universities, outreach programmes, educational tour, research methodology-based seminars and preparing students for presenting research papers in different seminars the department remains dedicated to nurturing talent and contributing meaningfully to society. The department also organises various types of research work for the dissertation. The Department also has one PhD supervisor, two scholars have received their PhD degree and 5 students are pursuing their research. Two of them are Junior Research Fellow.
