Comprehensive Green Campus Initiatives
East Calcutta Girls’ College actively implements eco-conscious practices to create a sustainable and inspiring learning environment. These initiatives reflect our commitment to a cleaner, greener future.
  • Eco-friendly Campus Layout

The campus includes two buildings, a sports ground, open walkways, gardens, and a natural pond. Trees and plantings are maintained and replanted annually. The layout promotes biodiversity and pedestrian-friendly movement with full-time safety and security monitoring.

  • Energy Conservation

A 35 kWp solar panel system powers campus buildings, feeding excess power into the national grid. The college also uses sensor-based lights, LED bulbs, UPS systems, and stabilizers to conserve energy, with usage guidelines followed by all.

  • Water Conservation

Rainwater harvesting is supported through a “Save the Drop” system by P. C. Chandra Group. The college recycles RO wastewater and non-toxic runoff to irrigate gardens. A resuscitated waterbody preserves biodiversity. Tap leaks are monitored and students practice water-saving habits.

  • Pollution-Free Environment

The campus is an Air & Noise Monitoring Station (WBPCB). Automobiles are restricted; bicycles are encouraged. Smoking and plastic use are banned. It is designated as a noise-free, emission-free, and pollution-intolerant zone.

  • Waste Disposal

Facilities for solid, liquid, and e-waste are available. Items are sorted and disposed of regularly. Separate bins handle degradable/non-degradable and biomedical waste. An e-waste cart (in collaboration with WBPCB) is maintained. Organic waste is composted for garden use.

  • Awareness Programs

NSS units conduct Clean Campus Drives, SAP activities, and Sustainability workshops (with MGNCRE). Students regularly engage in sanitization, biodiversity, and water conservation seminars. Observances include Clean Air Day, Environment Day, and WBPCB events.

These actions showcase the college’s long-standing commitment to environmental responsibility and sustainability education for future-ready citizens.
