Department of journalism and mass communication, established in the year 2003 offers undergraduate general degrees in journalism and mass communication, following the syllabus of West Bengal State university. In addition to a strong focus in theoretical aspects of media and communication, the department excels in practical management.
The department continues to train students in the fundamentals of media Reporting & Editing, Advertisement, Public relations, Media Law, Photography, filmmaking and web content production and media management that will help them succeed in any career, whether print, broadcast or online. Students are taught how to gather information, critically analyse it, and communicate it effectively, accurately, and ethically. The department seeks to provide all students with the opportunity to develop an understanding of the role of the media in our society, so they can learn to think critically about the ways in which the media affect individuals, institutions and social values. Students also are trained in the latest technology they need to succeed in an ever-changing digital media environment. The department continues to develop a dialogue with media educators and media industry professionals concerning the most effective ways to encourage professional standards at a time when the profession is confronting unprecedented challenges arising from the technological changes.
