The Department of Philosophy, East Calcutta Girls’ College started its journey in1992 at the undergraduate general level under the University of Calcutta with one full time teacher and three students. It was elevated to Honours level in 2001 with eight students, and three teachers, including one full time faculty member. Today, it offers both honours and general degree course in accordance with the syllabus prescribed by the West Bengal State University to which the college is affiliated. At present, the department has a combined roll strength of over 100 students of honours and general courses together; and Three teachers including two full time faculty.
