The Department of Mathematics is an integral part of the science departments of East Calcutta Girls' College. The aim of the department is to cultivate a fine mathematical taste and nurture mathematical interests among students. The department served under University of Calcutta until 2008 and after that it moved under West Bengal State University, Barasat. From the year 2018, the department adheres to new CBCS curriculum of the university and offers mathematics as General Elective paper and Core paper for B. Sc. students. At present, the department consists of two efficient faculty members. Besides regular chalk and talk, the classes are offered through ICT. The departmental library caters the need of the students easily along with book bank and main library. Regular assessments through internal exams, assignments and remedial classes for slow learners, student seminar are some of the student development initiatives from the department. Apart from the syllabus centric learning, the students are always encouraged to take part in sports, exhibitions, quiz etc. The department also tries to organize excursion for the students at least once in a year. The students also get exposure to some new avenues of mathematics thorough extension lectures from eminent professors of other institution. The department organises regular outreach programs for school and college students with the help of R.C. Bose Centre, ISI, Kolkata.
